Graffiti Heartist?
Somewhere in our midst, there is a complimentary vigilante, maybe several, who apparently use three out of four of the girl's toilets at our school.
I am not entirely sure how to feel about this.
Yes, it is technically "wrong".
Yes. It is a defacement of school/public property.
But...the message isn't so bad. Today, when I shut the door and saw the words "You are so beautiful" staring me in the face, I guess I was surprised. You probably would have been too - that's not normal toilet-wall banter. Usually there would be derogatory comments, nasty things said about other girls or guys.
So, I couldn't help thinking, this was a nice change.
We don't see much of this sort of message any more. Everywhere we look, the media tells us we are not thin enough, not pretty enough, not cool enough, not good enough. We are surrounded by impossible 'standards' and the 'bar' is out of reach. I guess whoever this was wanted to remind us that its not what you look like, who you sit with in your lunch hour or whether or not you're good at certain things; it doesn't matter if you have no boyfriend or you're not 'popular'.
You are you, and you are beautiful. Don't listen to what the hurtful people say - they need to find themselves amidst all the materialism and realise that those things are not what actually matter to people. Not to real people, or real friends.
So thank you, anonymous graffiti-er. You made my day and provided a little piece of inspiration, probably not just to me.
Goodnight, all. Much love and happiness.
Lise xx
